1. Information about us and how to contact us
1.1 Who we are: We are Sparks Film and Media Arts, also known as Sparks, Sparks Film School and Sparks Arts. We are a company registered in England and Wales. Our company registration number is 07250384 and our registered office is at Floor 3, 86-90 Paul Street, London, EC2A 4NE.
1.2 All references to Sparks Film School shall, where appropriate, include Sparks Film and Media Arts, companies trading as Sparks or Sparks Film School that have been authorised by Sparks and/or the appointed Sparks regional franchise office that provides you with the course(s) from time to time.
1.3 These are the terms and conditions on which we and our Franchisees (Franchisees) provide Sparks classes and supply services to you. All customers are expected to be aware of and comply with the terms and conditions set out below.
1.4 Please note that the agreement is between you and the Franchisee who operates your specific course. Your agreement is not with Sparks Film and Media Arts Ltd.
1.5 Please read these terms and conditions carefully. These terms and conditions tell you who we are, how the Franchisees will provide services to you, how you and the Franchisees may change or end the contract, what to do if there is a problem and other important information.
1.5 How to contact us. You can find the contact details of your local Sparks office by going to https://sparksarts.co.uk/sparks-class-finder and entering your postcode and selecting a location. Alternatively, these can be found online at help.sparksarts.co.uk.
1.6 How we may contact you. We may contact you by telephone or by writing to you at the email address or postal address you provided to us when you booked. In some cases, we may use SMS as a means of communication.
1.7 “In Writing” includes emails, postal letters or in the form of SMS messages. When we use the words “writing” or “written” in these terms, this takes into account any form of written communication.
2. What we do and the services we provide
2.1 Classes – Sparks Film School provides classes in film and media for students aged between 5-18. These include filmmaking classes, animation classes, photography classes, online courses and media-based holiday camps. Due to the specialist nature of providing these activities, certain Franchisees and locations may not offer all ranges of services. Each student’s development is unique, based on a range of factors. Sparks Film School cannot make any guarantees on the rate of progress of a learner, charges apply to the activities and do not relate to any attainment outcomes.
2.2 Products – Sparks also sells a range of merchandise.
2.3 Experiences and Events – from time to time, Sparks may run local events that are ticketed or open to the public.
3. Fees – General Terms
3.1 Sparks Film School currently offers its customers three options/schedules of payment:
3.1.1 Fees paid termly: membership to year-round Sparks programmes, applicable on a termly basis with fees payable on a payment subscription charged every 4 months. Customers should provide at least on half-term’s notice of cancellation.
3.1.2 Fees paid monthly: membership to year-round Sparks programmes, applicable on a termly basis with fees payable on a payment subscription charged every month, which spreads the cost of each term’s memberships across 4 equal monthly instalments:
Autumn Term: Payments due in September, October, November, December
Spring Term: Payments due in January, February, March, April
Summer Term: Payments due in May, June, July, August
The minimum membership period is one complete term. Customers should provide at least one half-term’s notice of cancellation.
3.1.3 Payment in full: for holiday camp bookings, full payment is applied at the point of booking to confirm each place. Payment by instalments can be arranged by getting in touch with your local Sparks office. All bookings for holiday camp programmes remain provisional until full payment is received and any deposits paid to secure a booking are non-refundable.
3.2 Different terms apply depending on which choice you make which are set out below.
3.3 Please note that monthly payment subscriptions may only be offered for certain course types and may only be available at participating Franchises.
3.4 You will be informed of the options available to you at the time of booking.
3.5 Once your booking is in place you will receive a confirmation email detailing what you have booked at which point a contract will come into existence between you and the relevant Franchisee.
3.6 If you have set up an online account, you will also receive details of how to access your account, including the details of any bookings placed with us. It is your responsibility to set or change an account password. This should be a confidential password, unique to you, which you should keep safe and secure.
3.7 All bookings should be made via the Sparks online booking system, which can be found at https://sparksarts.co.uk. Payments must be made either via the booking system (for card payments) or via the account details provided by your local Sparks office (for childcare voucher payments). Payments must not be made in cash or direct to staff members under any circumstances.
3.8 All fees and payments are itemised and available to view on your online account, which can be accessed online by logging in at https://sparksarts.co.uk
3.9 Participation in all classes is subject to age restrictions. If a student is booked into an incorrect age group, or if an instructor feels that a different class is likely to be more appropriate, students may be reallocated to the correct or more appropriate age group.
4. Course Fees and Payment
4.1 Course fees:
4.1.1 Fees for Sparks courses and classes vary from location to location, depending on local factors such as operating costs. For specific details of course fees, please refer to the Sparks website (https://sparksarts.co.uk) or check with your local Sparks office.
4.1.2 All course fees must be paid in full in advance of the start date of a course, unless enrolled on the monthly subscription plan.
4.1.3 Payment can on be made via debit/credit card via the Sparks website (https://sparksarts.co.uk) or by Childcare Vouchers/Childcare Schemes at participating Sparks Film School locations.
4.1.4 Students may not be allowed to participate in any activities until the relevant fees have been paid.
4.2 Course fees apply to the full duration of any course. Individual classes, days or sessions as part of a complete course are not available and fees are not applicable on a pro rata basis. Where any dates or classes of an individual course are missed for any reason, past the date of enrolment, there will be no refund due. Where a class, day or session is cancelled out of necessity by Sparks, the class will be rescheduled, or a partial credit may be offered. Where a student joins a particular class or course after the initial start date, pro rata membership fees, which account for the later start date, will apply.
5. Monthly Payment Plans
5.1 Course Fees:
5.1.1 Sparks Film School offers a Monthly Payment Plan option for customers. This applies to term time courses only and does not apply to holiday camps or other events.
5.1.2 This Monthly Payment Plan option is offered with a minimum contract term of one complete term’s membership. The notice period for cancellation is one half term and notice should be provided by the half term break within any term.
5.1.3 The Monthly Payment Plan is calculated on the full cost of a term’s membership, spread over 4 monthly payments. This is equivalent to a year’s membership spread over 12 monthly payments and includes classes structured over an academic year of three terms of 10 classes (equivalent to 30 classes per year).
Autumn Term: Payments due in September, October, November, December
Spring Term: Payments due in January, February, March, April
Summer Term: Payments due in May, June, July, August
Please be aware that will mean monthly payments remain due each month, during times where there may not be any classes scheduled, eg. during the summer holidays. These payments will usually relate to classes already participated in and therefore should be paid monthly as per your monthly payment plan.
5.1.4 In the event of any changes to course fees, we will notify you of any changes to the monthly amount at least one month before it is due to change.
5.1.5 Students may not be allowed to participate in any classes or sessions if monthly payments have been missed, or if there is a balance owing.
5.2 Payment of fees:
5.2.1 When enrolling into our system, the monthly fee applicable will be detailed. This is payable in advance.
5.2.2 Payments on the Monthly Payment Plan can only be made via debit/credit card via the Sparks website (https://sparksarts.co.uk). Payment via Childcare Vouchers/Childcare Schemes only applies to termly memberships or where a customer is making a payment in full.
5.3 Cancellation:
5.3.1 Membership is based on an academic term’s membership, which comprises approximately 10 classes, with payments scheduled over 4 months. You can cancel your Monthly Payment Plan, by providing one half term’s notice. In the event of cancellation, any fees outstanding in relation to the current term will apply and monthly payments should continue in line with the schedule outlined in 5.1.3.
6. Membership, Term Dates & Trial Periods
6.1 Membership applies to all Sparks term time courses.
6.2 Membership applies termly, with three terms per academic year. These are:
Autumn: Classes operating from September – December, subject to the local academic calendar.
Spring: Classes operating from January – April, subject to the local academic calendar.
Summer: Classes operating from May – August, subject to the local academic calendar.
6. 3 Specific class dates will be scheduled by your local Franchisee, who will advise of all course dates. There will be equivalent to 30 classes per year or 10 classes per term, unless restricted by local school holiday dates. In the case of school holiday dates restricting the number of sessions per term to fewer than 10, these sessions will be added to the following term.
6.4.1 Sparks offers the opportunity to take part in free trial or taster classes on some of its programmes.
6.4.2 Trial or taster classes are offered at the discretion of the local management and not all locations offer trial classes.
6.4.3. Trial classes are subject to availability and availability is not guaranteed. For instance if a course or activity is fully booked, then we may be unable to offer a trial class.
6.4.4 Trial classes are available to new students only. Trial classes can be booked in the same manner as other activities. Trials are subject to the same terms and conditions as set out here.
6.5.1 A trial membership period applies to Sparks term time courses. This is a period of 14 days from the date of enrolment, or for the duration of two programmed classes as may apply. This trial membership period operates as a ‘money back guarantee’.
6.5.2 As part of the trial membership period, students should participate in a minimum of 2 classes.
6.5.3 After the initial trial membership period of 14 days, your membership will automatically transfer to the standard Terms and Conditions set out here, unless you opt to cancel your membership following the trial period.
6.5.4 Cancellation of a trial period membership must be cancelled within 7 days of the trial period ending, following all other terms set out in Section 8 of these Terms and Conditions.
6.5.4 In the event of cancellation following a trial membership period, you will be issued with a full refund of any course fees paid.
6.5.6 Trial periods may be extended at the discretion of the Franchisee.
6.5.7 Trial periods apply to term time courses only and do not apply to holiday camps, events or other activities.
6.6 Holiday camps or special events operate for distinct periods of time, with set dates. These dates will be available on our website at https://www.sparksarts.co.uk and course dates will be set and publicised by your local franchisee.
7. General Terms
7.1 Your rights to change your mind
7.1.1 In accordance with the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 you have the right to change your mind where you have purchased goods or services online. Under these regulations, you have 14 days after the day we email you to confirm we have accepted your order during which you can change your mind and get a full refund of any monies paid to us. To do so please contact us by email or telephone and we will arrange for the cancellation and refund of any payments made.
7.1.2 Where a course begins within 14 days of the date of your booking and your place is taken up, all charges will apply.
7.1.3 We will refund the amount you paid to us by the method you used for payment. We will make any refunds due to you as soon as possible and, in any event, within 14 days of you telling us you wish to exercise your right to change your mind.
8. Cancellations and Refunds
8.1 All cancellations requested by a customer are subject to an administration charge of £10.00. This applies to each booking cancelled.
8.2 Any booking may be cancelled by customers and eligible for a full refund by providing not less than 14 days notice prior to the commencement of the course. Notice of cancellation should be provided in writing and a full refund, minus the cancellation charge, will be issued using the original method of payment.
8.3 Any booking which is cancelled with fewer than 14 days written notice of the course start date is subject to the full course fee being charged.
8.4 Once a course has commenced, no refunds will apply in the event of non-attendance. In this instance, a course credit or transfer may be offered as an alternative. This is at the discretion of the local Franchisee.
8.5 Method of cancellation
- To cancel a booking, customers should provide notice in writing to the local Sparks office using the contact details available at https://sparkarts.co.uk.
- Notice of cancellation must be provided in writing, ie. by email. Messages left on an answer phone or voicemail is not considered satisfactory notice.
- Working hours apply. If notice is received after 5pm, it will be considered to have arrived the following working day. If notice is received over a weekend, it will be considered to have arrived the following Monday.
- If notice is sent via postal services, it will apply from the date of receipt, not the date of issue.
8.6 Cancellation, Rescheduling or Amendments to Particulars made by Sparks
8.6.1 In the unlikely event that a Franchisee needs to cancel a course, you will be informed in writing at the earliest possible opportunity.
8.6.2 Where a Franchisee may need to cancel any courses or programmes out of necessity, we will attempt to reschedule classes/activities or offer alternative course options where appropriate. Sparks will provide substitute lessons where possible either at an alternative time, venue or, if required, online.
8.6.3 If no alternative can be offered, Sparks will provide refunds for lessons that are unable to be fulfilled. This excludes any courses or programmes that are impacted by local legislation, for instance, any courses impacted by measures connected to Covid-19 or force majeure events. In this event, programmes will be rescheduled to future dates authorised by the relevant local authorities.
8.6.4 Where a Franchisee has to cancel or amend an activity, we will give as much notice as possible. You will be notified by email, text message, and by telephone call at the first opportunity. Parents/guardians are responsible for checking their voicemails.
8.6.5 We reserve the right to make changes to any advertised courses in the event of illness or other circumstances beyond our control. This may include changes to the venue, dates, programme content etc, within reason. This will only take place where absolutely necessary and we will always try to provide as much notice as possible. We will do our best to keep class times, programme delivery formats and/or locations as similar as possible and within a reasonable travelling distance of the original activity.
9. Medical Details, Access Support, Learning or Additional Support Needs (collectively ASN)
9.1 Details of any known Medical, Access or Additional Support Needs (collectively referred to as ASN) is essential for the safe running of our classes and for reference in emergency situations. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian or person placing the booking to supply up to date, relevant ASN information and to update whenever there are any changes.
9.2 ASN details can be updated at any time by providing details to your local Sparks office.
9.3 Sparks will not be liable in any way should details have been completed inaccurately or incompletely.
9.4 Sparks keeps all such records securely and only accessible by specified individuals within the organisation. All information obtained will be held in accordance with all relevant data protection laws as are in force and in place from time to time, as well as in accordance with our own Privacy Policy, copies of which are available at https://sparksarts.co.uk.
10. Personal Possessions
10.1 Sparks will not accept liability for the loss of or damage to any personal effects brought to courses by a student to any session and you are therefore requested to ensure that no valuable items are brought to Sparks activities.
10.2 In the event that a student brings their own equipment to a Sparks activity, the student holds responsibility for this equipment and should not permit other students to use it. Sparks cannot verify the suitability of any personal equipment and is not responsible for any loss or damage or injury sustained whilst any personal equipment is in use by a student.
10.3 The use of mobile phones during activities is not permitted. These should be hidden from view, in pockets or bags. Use of mobile phones during activities will be subject to the procedures outlined within the Behaviour Policy.
10.4 Sparks will not include or involve any representatives in investigations relating to personal property, outside of compliance and cooperation with organisations such as the police or the local authority.
11. Attendance, Drop-Off & Collection
11.1 Students should aim to attend as many sessions within their course as possible. Course dates will be as advertised, or as communicated to customers in course communications.
11.2 Where a student misses a session due to absence, Sparks cannot guarantee to offer catch up support.
11.3 Where a student is absent, it is possible that any specific roles or responsibilities allocated to them as part of the filmmaking process may be recast or reallocated owing to the necessary production schedules.
11.4 Classes start and end at the advertised times. Parents or guardians are responsible for all students outside of advertised class times. Students should not arrive more than 15 minutes prior to the commencement of their activity.
11.5 Sparks will try to accommodate latecomers for up to 15 minutes after the session start time. Admission beyond 15 minutes late cannot be guaranteed and a student may be refused entry to the session. This is to prevent disruption to the class for others.
11.6.1 Students should be collected promptly at the session end time, or should have permission to leave independently (ages 11+ only).
11.6.2 Students who have permission to leave independently may leave without an adult at the session end time. Permission to leave independently is only applicable to students over the age of 11 and should be communicated in writing by the student’s parent/guardian.
11.6.3 Students without permission to leave independently must be collected by a known adult. This applies to all students under the age of 11.
11.6.4 If running late for collection, the parent or guardian should notify a Sparks representative at the earliest possible opportunity and advise of a likely time of arrival.
11.6.5 Late collection: where a parent or guardian is late for collection, additional charges may apply beyond a 15 minute grace period. Collections later than 15 minutes will be subject to charges of £15.00 per interval of 15 minutes, up to a maximum of one hour. These charges may be charged automatically, using any payment method held on file.
11.6.6 Late collection: where a parent or guardian is running late, Sparks will release a child to a nominated taxi service as an alternative form of collection. The parent or guardian is responsible for booking the taxi service and should provide the name of the driver/taxi company, along with the car registration number, to a Sparks representative.
11.6.7 Late collection: in accordance with our Safeguarding Policy, if a student has still not been collected by an appropriate adult by 60 minutes beyond the session end time, the student will be transferred to the nearest police station. You will be notified in writing and should arrange to collect your child from the police station. In such an event, a charge of £75.00 will be applied in order to cover staff expenses. Charges may be charged automatically, using any payment method held on file. All other terms outlined in our Safeguarding Policy will apply.
11.7 Booking contacts should remain contactable for the duration of the session or activity or provide details for a suitable alternative person to contact in the event of an emergency.
11.8 Sparks Film School students, parents, guardians, siblings or all other associates, must observe any rules in operation at the location or venue of the classes, particularly with respect to health and safety. These rules will be signposted or communicated by other means. In the event of any non-compliance, or where behaviour may jeopardise the health and safety of others, Sparks staff or venue staff retain the right to refuse admission. In such circumstances, Sparks will not be liable for, or offer, any refunds or credits for any missed sessions.
12. Instructors
12.1 Sparks only works with instructors who have current Enhanced DBS Disclosure from England and Wales, Disclosure Scotland and Access Northern Ireland. Sparks instructors are also subject to additional vetting checks to ensure their suitability to work with children.
12.2 Sparks will endeavour to ensure consistency of staffing week-to-week or day-to-day, however, it is likely that cover staffing will be required on occasion. Sparks reserves the right to appoint cover instructors to its classes at any time as required by the operational circumstances.
12.3 If you have any concerns as to the conduct or suitability of a Sparks instructor, please contact Sparks Head Office who will discuss the matter with you and attempt to address any concerns you may have.
13. Behaviour
13.1 Students must follow the conduct and expectations outlined in the Sparks Behaviour Policy at all times.
13.2 Staff are responsible for implementing the Behaviour Policy and may contact parents in the event of any behavioural concerns. Parents should familiarise themselves with the Behaviour Policy prior to students taking part.
13.3 In the event of a student, parent, guardian, sibling or other associate failing to act in accordance with the Behaviour Policy, refusing to comply with an instruction from a member of staff, or behaving in an unruly manner towards a member of staff, a student, or any other person or causing damage to premises, or any of the furniture fixtures or equipment in those premises, the student’s membership to sessions may be terminated.
13.4 In such circumstances as outlined in 13.3, Sparks will have the right to terminate the contract and the student shall not be accepted for any future course organised by Sparks. Sparks will refund any charges paid for courses not taken following termination of membership.
14. Condition of Premises
14.1 Sparks will make all reasonable efforts to ensure that the condition of its hired premises are in suitable condition for its intended purposes. Sparks does not accept liability for any injury to a student that may be caused by any defect which is beyond our control, however we will cooperate and facilitate any relevant communication with all parties in the event of any incident or concerns.
14.2 If you have any concerns or comments regarding the condition of the premises, please let the instructor know and we will attempt to resolve any issues as quickly as possible.
15. Transmission of Infections
15.1 It is the responsibility of each student, or their parent or guardian to ensure that the student is fit and well enough to participate. Sparks will not accept liability for any infection passed to a student by another student taking part in its activities.
15.2 In the event of any national guidance related to the spread of infections, customers should follow UK Government advice. Sparks will act in accordance with local legislation at all times and will follow the most up-to-date government guidelines to ensure safety standards are met.
15.3 In the event of an emergency situation, or government guidance related to the spread of infections coming into operation, Sparks reserves the right to amend any advertised particulars, such as dates, times, or venue, if it is required. Alternatives will be put in place wherever possible. In the event of any cancellations, activities will be rescheduled or will be subject to a change of particulars, such as a move to online format. This clause supersedes all others relating to cancellation in the event of an emergency situation (such as a national emergency).
16. Safety Rules
16.1 Students should wear appropriate clothing and footwear to participate in sessions.
16.2 Students should not bring any nuts or well-known allergens to sessions.
16.3 Where students bring their own food, they should ensure not to share foods with others in case of allergies.
16.4 Students must not use mobile phones and/or personal devices to capture images or video recordings of each other.
16.5 Students, along with parents, guardians, siblings or other associates must stay in the authorised areas and should not enter into unauthorised spaces without permission.
16.6 Where participants take medication, they should only bring essential medication to Sparks activities and staff must be notified of any medication upon arrival.
16.7 Any medication brought to activities must be clearly labelled and the participant should be able to administer it themselves, unless Sparks has agreed otherwise prior to participation.
16.8 Parents/guardians must inform Sparks and its staff of any existing injuries, physical, sensory or learning disabilities or medical conditions. All registrations must have any known medical conditions stated and any changes to such information must be notified to Sparks prior to participation.
16.9 If you are unsure whether a participant should take part in any activity please consult with a GP or medical practitioner before enrolment. Sparks may request a certificate or a letter to confirm suitability to take part.
16.10 Participants must wear suitable clothing at all times.
16.11 Disclaimer: All Sparks activities are fully insured for Public Liability, however by attending a Sparks activity you do so fully in the knowledge that whilst Sparks will do all that it can to ensure the safety of those it is providing activities for, accidents can happen. By attending a Sparks course you acknowledge that Sparks Film School, its nominated franchisees nor any of its staff shall be liable for any personal injury or illness not caused by negligence. Nothing in this disclaimer shall limit or exclude Sparks’s liability where such injury is caused by negligence.
17. Dispute Resolution
17.1 In case of any dispute, please write to either:
(a) Your local Sparks office
(b) Sparks Film and Media Arts (Head Office), 86-90 Paul Street, London, EC2A 4NE
17.2 Your correspondence will be forwarded to the appropriate Sparks Franchise Office who are responsible for all aspects of Customer Service within their franchise areas.
17.3 If you are not satisfied with how your local office has handled your concerns, please write to us at the above Head Office address and we will investigate the matter. For more information, please see our Complaints Policy.

18.1 The content of all of the pages of this website is for your general information and use only. It is subject to change without notice. Neither Sparks nor any third parties provide any warranty or guarantee as to the accuracy, timeliness, performance, completeness or suitability of the information and materials found or offered on this website for any particular purpose. 19.2 As part of its activities, Sparks generates an array of creative content, including film and video products, documentary articles, such as behind the scenes images and video content, scripts, images and audio content. Sparks holds the sole copyright for all creative content, media and associated content produced on courses or events.
19.3 If any copyright does not automatically lie with Sparks, in taking part, you assign reproduction and disclosure rights for the full period of copyright including any renewals and extensions.
19.4 We reserve the right to reproduce or exhibit these articles in public, including online, subject to the image release details contained in [clause].
19.5 Subject to the image release clauses detailed in [clause], Sparks and its partners may also use media including photographs, video and sound recordings from workshops and screenings for promotional use including online.

20. Media Permissions: Media Capture & Release
20.1 As part of your booking, you will be asked for your permission to capture and release your child’s image, voice and likeness for the purposes of creative content, as detailed within our Publishing Policy. The Publishing Policy can be found on our website at https://sparksarts.co.uk.
20.2 We will always seek the consent of parents/guardians for:
a) Students to appear on camera
b) The release of students’ Image, Voice and Likeness within Creative Content, under the terms of the Publishing Policy and these Terms & Conditions
c) Consent to indicate release permissions for different forms of creative content
20.3 Where a parent/guardian does not provide consent, we will not publish any material featuring their image, voice or likeness in any form, including private channels. Their image should not be captured on camera. If it is captured, it will be deleted prior to inclusion in any creative content intended for publication. This means that they cannot take on an acting role within any film products made during the course or event, however they can take part behind the camera.
20.4 Parents/guardians should be aware that we share and publish creative content featuring the images, voices and likenesses of students in a range of places, including online and through sharing with third parties, such as film festivals and film education partners. It is the responsibility of parents/guardians to familiarise themselves with the details of the Publishing Policy.
20.5 In the case of any children who are identified as vulnerable, e.g. looked after children, explicit consent must be given by an appropriate adult in writing for the student to appear on camera and all other conditions in relation to safeguarding must apply.
