The Young Filmmakers Lab is an advanced filmmaking short course and creative space for young filmmakers aged 15-18 (school years 10-13).

The Young Filmmakers Lab enables students to develop their filmmaking practice and skills. Students collaborate to build their film portfolios, develop professional filmmaking skills and enhance their knowledge and understanding of film production.
The course is designed for those with some experience of filmmaking and those interested in pursuing film or media.

What’s Involved?
The Young Filmmakers Lab is an advanced short course for young filmmakers looking to supercharge their skills.
The programme runs over a week, Monday – Friday, during the summer holidays.
Young filmmakers develop their skills in all-round film production, as well as exploring specialist technical areas.
Students work collaboratively to develop their own ideas into a short film production, made using industry grade equipment.
The programme includes skill-based workshops as well as a guided film production project, which results in a complete short film.
Technical Skills
Technical skills sessions include directing, cinematography, lighting, sound, screenwriting, editing and production design.
Sessions are all taught by experienced professionals with working knowledge of the industry.
Young filmmakers devise their stories and develop them into film scripts. They produce their films on professional grade camera and sound equipment, with access to a range of production equipment.
By the end of the programme, students will have produced their own impressive short film production, which can be included in their portfolios/showreels. It will be entered into film festivals as part of the programme.
Young Filmmakers Lab Courses
To take part, filmmakers should be aged 15-18 (in UK school years 10-13 or equivalent).
Please be aware that this is a higher level programme than other summer courses, and assumes participants have some previous experience.
