In the Autumn Term of Filmmaking Classes, the young film crews have been busy exploring a new creative theme…
Read on to discover what young filmmakers have been up to during the second half of the autumn term classes at Sparks Film School…
Parallel Editing: Creating their own complex edited sequences
One of the areas that the young film crews have been looking into is different editing techniques.
With the theme of this term being focused on editing with Finishing Touches, Sparks Film School young filmmakers have been looking at a variety of editing techniques. They have looked at parallel editing, in which two or more scenes are edited together to show they are happening at the same time. These often happen in different locations with different characters.
The young filmmakers have been busy creating some truly impressive film magic using these editing techniques this term.

Editing: Superpowers
Also this term, the young filmmakers have been getting their hands on the green screens and have been looking at how we can create magical powers and effects onscreen in our films. The crews have learnt how to make an actor appear as if they are flying by using the green screen and some clever camera work.
Young filmmakers have also been experimenting with creating the power of floatation on screen with some advanced camera trickery, to great effect.
The young film crews have been using these powers in their films, creating some really amazing on screen effects in the editing suite. Being able to create outstanding special effects for their films has really opened doors for how they can tell ambitious stories on screen.

Pitching and Pre-Production
Since half term, the young filmmakers have been busy moving from pre-production into production mode – this is where a film project moves on from the writing and planning stages, into being ready to shoot.
The crews have been producing a storyboard for each scene, so that each crew member is aware of how each shot and scene should look, and which shots to film on their shooting schedule. The crews have also delved into editing techniques and put together some very snappy edits.
The actors have been rehearsing dialogue with their directors, and they have also been doing some good location scouting, in order to identify lots of good spots to film.

Moving onto Production
Sparks young filmmakers have been really busy getting stuck into production towards the end of their Autumn term.
Crews up and down the UK have been rehearsing and shooting their scenes, including filming on location and capturing lots of their own custom sound effects.
Whilst shooting some of their busier sequences the crews have used multiple camera set-ups to capture the action across several angles, which has involved lots of teamwork and vital on set communication.
There has been lots of brilliant work this term everyone, well done!
