Each term, we introduce a brand new creative theme to our youth filmmaking classes. The termly theme offers new inspiration, as well as a gateway to a new set of film techniques, genre or conventions.
We’re delighted to announce the new theme for Autumn 2023, The Other Side!
The Other Side
In the new theme, young filmmakers taking part in weekly filmmaking classes will explore lots of new techniques based on perspective, point of view and switching sides.
Across the different studio groups, we’ll look at:
- Flipping camera movements and tricks
- Parallel story lines and cross-cutting
- Reversed points of view
- Shot-Reverse-Shot techniques
- Invisible wipes
- How to use different “sides” as characters and the opportunities of switching sides
- Fish-out-of-water storylines
- Directional camera work including upside down frames and rotating frames
The theme will help filmmakers to add new techniques to their knowledge, skills and experience. It will also help them to devise and develop a series of new and original plots and scripts for the autumn term’s youth film productions.
Autumn 2023
The autumn term starts in September and runs through to the December holidays. During this time, the youth film students (aged between 5 and 18) meet weekly to develop their filmmaking skills. They also work towards their own termly productions, which are crafted by the young filmmakers and based all around their ideas.
Each week, they work towards producing their films. They work through the entire creative process, where they write their own stories and scripts, design, rehearse and prepare for their shoots. They direct, shoot, crew and star in their own unique productions and they also lead on editing their work too.
We’re excited to see what the young crews come up with as part of the new theme.
