Sparks Film School Summer Camps 2026 Morphed: Characters in Flux
This summer, Sparks Film School is opening the doors to our film and animation summer camps 2026.
Our theme this year is Morphed: Characters in Flux, a concept that goes right to the heart of what makes cinema so captivating.
From the high-stakes evolution of a superhero to the quiet, internal change of a coming-of-age story, we are inviting young filmmakers to explore how characters and creators transform to capture our attention.

Summer Camps 2026: Explore a Brand New Theme
Every year, our summer camps embrace a new theme to introduce new techniques and to help young filmmakers explore their range.
At the heart of every unforgettable film is the spark of change. The Morphed: Characters in Flux theme – new for summer camps 2026 – invites young filmmakers to explore the profound beauty of transformation, both in the worlds they build and the characters who inhabit them.
Beyond just mapping out a plot, students will dive into the architecture of the internal arc, learning how to create characters that truly breathe and evolve in ways that make an audience feel every high and low. Whether you’re imagining a society undergoing a dramatic shift or a protagonist discovering a new side of themselves, this year’s theme is all about mastering the tools to tell stories about adaptation and resilience.
It’s an exploration of how we grow, how we react to the unexpected, and how to capture that evolution on screen to create a narrative that feels both deeply personal and universal.
Unmute Your Imagination
Our film and animation summer camps are built on the belief that every young creator, whether just starting out or ready to refine your own cinematic style, has a unique creative voice to share.
Our summer camps provide a creative space and specialist guidance for young filmmakers to experiment, take risks, and find confidence, all whilst discovering and developing skills, talent and experience. It’s more than just learning about the technical side: it’s about creative expression and making real film productions you can share and add to your portfolios.

A Week on a Working Set
What does a week at a Sparks Film School summer camp actually look like?
Every summer camp offers five days of high-energy collaboration and creative challenges. Our Film and Animation students don’t sit in a classroom and listen to theory, they join a real production crew who start making from Day 1. Every day is a mix of technical workshops and live production, where they master:
- Practical Filmmaking/Animation using real equipment: young filmmakers gain hands-on experience with cameras, green screen, grip, or animation software
- Narrative Craft: learn about powerful storytelling techniques, including the subtle art of the character arc.
- Creative Effects: discover the illusions and camera techniques used to create magical and sci-fi transformations without needing a massive budget
Skills That Stay
While our students leave with a film they can be proud of, the real value lies in being a part of the film crew. Filmmaking is perhaps the most collaborative art form in existence. To get a single shot right, the director, camera op, crew and performers all have to communicate perfectly.
As young filmmakers working as part of a unique film crew, students are also developing transferable soft skills to apply in every day life:
- Resilience: learn how to pivot when a scene doesn’t go to plan or a technical hitch arises
- Teamwork: the best ideas often come from problem-solving with new friends
- Confidence: there is a unique kind of pride that comes from standing behind an idea and seeing it projected on a big screen.

Space to Grow for Ages 5-18
Creativity looks different for every young filmmaker. To make sure every creator feels challenged but supported, our summer camps are tailored across five distinct age groups:
- Studio 1, for Ages 5–7: a gentle, playful introduction to visual storytelling and camera magic.
- Studio 2, for Ages 7–9: focus on the core foundations of shots, framing, and working as a crew.
- Studio 3, for Ages 9–11: build more complex plots and encouraging technical independence.
- Studio 4, for Ages 11–14: move into advanced special effects and sophisticated narrative structures.
- Studio 5, for Ages 14–18: work to a professional brief, ideal for building a portfolio or exploring a future career in the arts.
