In Sparks movie making summer camps, young movie makers aged 5-18 learn all about the creative process of making their own movies.
They work as a real film crew to produce their own film productions from start to finish, just like on a real film set. The young crews develop their own imaginative script, before shooting, starring on screen and editing too.
Everyone experiences the different creative and technical roles, stepping into the shoes of director, camera crew, producers, actors, editors, designers and even more. It’s an action-packed experience, full of fun and creative learning for everyone taking part.

We’re happy to answer any questions you may have.
My child has been before, what will they get out of it?
All our courses are designed to progress learning and skills, following the Sparks Syllabus.
As a former holiday camp member, your child will have their own level and will continue working towards their next level the next time they take part. This includes work from weekly classes and holiday camps and ensures they are continually developing and progressing their skill level.
We also introduce a new theme each year, which helps to expand students’ learning.
Your child will also build their portfolio of work, which alongside offering a record of their personal journey, can also be used to demonstrate knowledge, learning and potential for school and university applications, Duke of Edinburgh or Arts Awards qualifications and for entry to film industry employment opportunities.
What ages will my child be working with?
For movie making summer camps, we tend to place students into their Studio groups, which correspond to their school year:
Studio 1: Ages 5-7 (School Years 1-2)
Studio 2: Ages 7-9 (School Years 3-4)
Studio 3: Ages 9-11 (School Years 5-6)
Studio 4: Ages 11-14 (School Years 7-9)
Studio 5: Ages 14-18 (School Years 10+)
There will be occasions when we may merge some groups for operational reasons, however, this will only be with the adjacent studios where the age range is suitable, e.g. Studios 2 and 3, or Studios 4 and 5.
Who are the tutors?
We work with a highly skilled and well trained team of media instructors to facilitate our courses across the UK.
All our instructors are carefully trained to deliver Sparks programmes and are recruited from specialist film and media backgrounds.
Everyone is fully vetted and DBS-checked in line with Safer Recruitment procedures. We also apply high staff to student ratios (1:8 or 1:6 for younger groups), to ensure both a high level of safeguarding and a high quality learning experience.
You can find out more about the Sparks team here.
Do we get a copy of the finished product?
Yes, as part of our movie making summer camps, our students work on real film/media projects. We provide these to you at the end of the programme.
In some programmes, there are also screenings or sharing events at the end of the course for parents and family members to attend.
How many children take part?
We operate small class/studio sizes to ensure that everyone has plenty of opportunity and receives a high quality learning experience.
Filmmaking Studios: Maximum 15 students per group
Photography Studios: Maximum 20 students per group
Animation Studios: Maximum 20 students per group
Are there sibling discounts?
Yes, we offer discounted places for siblings or for groups of friends booking together for movie making summer camps.
Please get in touch to arrange bookings for siblings or groups.
Can I join for just one day?
If you’re interested in a one day course or a shorter programme, then we recommend our Photography Camps, which run for 1-2 days.
Summer camps run as distinct courses, so we recommend taking part in as much as possible.
It’s not a problem to miss a day or so for travel or illness etc. (especially if we know beforehand and can make sure everything is included), however our courses aren’t designed for drop in attendance and we find that the students don’t get much from participating in this way.
