Discover new skills, delve into action-packed creative learning and make a movie to be proud of, all in an action-packed week of unforgettable fun and hands-on creativity. Crew members explore their own film set, working as a real film crew. They step into the different crew roles you find on a professional set, making and starring in their own film production.
Movie making summer camps are led by our team of specialist Sparks Film School instructors, who guide and support everyone through the process. The end result is a finished masterpiece to add to portfolios, celebrate and share.

We offer a launchpad for students to develop the creative, technical and vital life skills needed for the future, building lasting confidence, collaborative teamwork and creative resilience.

From Script to Screen
Students experience the entire filmmaking process firsthand. Guided by our supportive instructors, students craft original scripts and bring their ideas to life through hands-on directing and crewing.
Both Sides of the Lens
There is never a dull moment: students can star in their movie and gain hands-on experience as they try out every role (directing, camera, sound, editing) in the crew too.

Summer Camps Theme 2026
Each year brings a new theme to inspire ideas and creativity. This year the theme is Morphed: Characters in Flux, a concept that goes right to the heart of what makes filmmaking so captivating.

We’re happy to answer any questions you may have about summer camps, weekly film classes, or any other programme.
How do the age groups work at Movie Making Summer Camps?
There are 5 tiers to our filmmaking programme:
Studio 1: Ages 5-7 (School Years 1-2)
Studio 2: Ages 7-9 (School Years 3-4)
Studio 3: Ages 9-11 (School Years 5-6)
Studio 4: Ages 11-14 (School Years 7-9)
Studio 5: Ages 14-18 (School Years 10+)
There will be occasions when we may merge some groups for operational reasons, however, this will only be with the adjacent studios where the age range is suitable, e.g. Studios 2 and 3, or Studios 4 and 5.
For summer camps, please book into the year your child is leaving, not the year they will start in September.
Who are the tutors?
Movie making summer camps are taught by our team of filmmaking instructors, who are all highly skilled and trained professional film educators and specialists in delivering our programmes. Our team bring a wealth of filmmaking knowledge and experience, they all share a passion for inspiring the next generation of filmmakers.
Everyone is fully vetted and DBS-checked in line with Safer Recruitment procedures.
Staff Ratios:
Our staff ratio is a maximum of 1:10 or 1:6 for younger groups. Our priority is to ensure a high quality learning experience and the safety and wellbeing of our students.
How advanced is the course?
Movie making summer camps are general level courses, which welcome students of all abilities and experience levels. Our team of instructors work to ensure that your child is working at the appropriate level.

We also offer The Young Filmmakers Lab, which is a more advanced summer course available to ages 15-18.

Do we get a copy of the finished product?
Yes, as part of our movie making summer camps, our students work on real film/media projects. We provide these to you at the end of the programme.
In some programmes, there are also screenings or sharing events at the end of the course for parents and family members to attend. You’ll find details of these in your welcome packs, or please speak to your local Head for details.
How many children take part?
We operate small class/studio sizes to ensure that everyone has plenty of opportunity and receives a high quality learning experience.
Filmmaking Studios: Maximum 15 students per group
Animation Studios: Maximum 20 students per group
Multimedia Studios: Maximum 20 students per group
There are often multiple age groups running each week, each with their own dedicated instructors.
Are the discounts for siblings or groups?
Yes, we offer discounted places for siblings or for groups of friends booking together for movie making summer camps.

Can I join by the day?
Summer camps run as distinct courses, with a project running throughout. We recommend taking part in as much as possible.
It’s not a problem to miss a day or so for travel or illness (especially if we know beforehand and can make sure everything is included), however our courses aren’t designed for drop in attendance and we find that the students don’t get much from participating in this way. For shorter courses, take a look at your nearest film school for special events and one day workshop opportunities.
Do you accept Childcare Vouchers/Childcare Choices?
Many of our film schools welcome childcare vouchers, Childcare Choices and registrations via Bright Horizons/My Family Care.
