Animation Summer Camp at Sparks Film School Glasgow South

£285.00

Make your own animated movie this summer! Take part in our action-packed animation summer camps.

Discover unforgettable fun, creative learning and make an animated movie to be proud of.

The camp covers practical, hands-on instruction in stop motion and 2D animation techniques, as well as the opportunity for the young creatives to develop their own animated story. Participants are in small groups with similar ages:

  • Studio 2/3 – ages 7-11 (usually going into primary 4-7)
  • Studio 4 – ages 11-14 (usually going into primary 7 to secondary 3)

We start and intersperse each day with games and breaks to ensure campers have a chance to make new friends along the way. We welcome diverse learning styles and young people are welcome to come on their own or come with a friend–we always make sure everyone is included and can take part. Get in touch if you want to discuss your child’s unique needs.

Camps run Monday to Friday, 9am to 3pm. We encourage parents/carers to join us at 2:30 on Friday to a preview of the camper’s animated works and cheer as they get their certificate of accomplishment. Families are also invited to our semi-annual screening event at a local cinema in Glasgow to see all the films on the big screen.

Description

Over the course of the week, we will discuss a range of animation techniques including 2D drawn animation, stop motion animation, and pixelation; and explore key concepts like the 12 principles of animation. Working in pairs or trios with the support of professional animators, campers will be working with tablets, models, lighting, and software to learn about and practice the creation process from ideation, design, filming and editing. The young animators will have a short piece to preview parents and carers on Friday at the end of camp and be able to share with their family and friends!

SUMMER THEME: THE ELEMENT OF SURPRISE

In The Element of Surprise, our brand new theme for 2024, young filmmakers taking part in the Summer Shoots will explore the unusual, and craft surprises and intrigue for their audiences at every stage of the filmmaking process. The workshops will explore plot twists, transformations, miracles, camera trickery and unusual surprises, all designed to keep the audience on the edge of their seats!

This theme will offer a fantastic creative challenge for this year’s Summer Shoots filmmakers, one we know that they will rise to in order to create a sensational slate of brand new youth film productions!

In The Element of Surprise, as storytellers and screenwriters, the young filmmakers will need to think creatively to surprise and engage their audiences as they explore creative ways to surprise our audiences. As production designers, they’ll create outlandish sets and costume and as cinematographers they’ll produce images that surprise and delight their viewers.

During the production process, as directors, actors, cinematographers and production crew, they will need to be visual and creative to produce memorable, iconic imagery and distinctive looks-and-feels to their film productions.

As editors, they will also need to work in harmony to convey both the story and its settings effectively through post-production techniques.
