We are thrilled to announce an exciting new opportunity for our young creatives, Shoot With Shakespeare, our new filmmaking competition open to all our talented students!
Lights, Camera, Shakespeare!
To film, or not to film? That is (not) the question. At Sparks Film School, we believe Shakespeare’s words aren’t just meant for the stage, they are a playground ripe for cinematic innovation.
We are thrilled to announce our brand-new Shoot with Shakespeare competition, for young filmmakers aged between 8-18!
We’re inviting all young filmmakers to take the timeless language of the Bard and transform it into a modern, cinematic masterpiece. Whether you’re a fan of tragic monologues or witty, fast-paced duologues, this is your chance to shine behind – and in front of – the camera.
The Creative Challenge: Quality Over Quantity
We aren’t looking for a three-hour epic. We want to see focused, powerful, and thoughtfully created scenes.
- The Task: Choose a monologue (one character) or duologue (two characters) from any Shakespeare play
- The Format: Film and edit the scene into a short cinematic piece
- The Length: Maximum 2 minutes.
- The Deadline: Submit your final edit by 23 April 2026
What Our Judges Are Looking For
Our panel of judges isn’t just looking for someone reciting lines; they want to see vision.
Your entry will be judged on three main pillars:
1. Exciting Cinematography & Use of Camera
Think like a film director! How can the camera tell the story? We want to see:
- Intentional Angles: Using close-ups for emotional impact or wide shots to show isolation.
- Visual Atmosphere: Creative use of shadows, light, and interesting locations.
- Editing & Movement: Using camera movement to build tension and thoughtful cuts to keep the pace.
2. Strong, Engaging Performances
Shakespeare’s language is a superpower once you unlock the emotion behind it. We’re looking for:
- Clarity & Understanding: Actors who truly know what their character is feeling.
- Bold Choices: Using facial expressions and body language to bring the character to life.
- Commitment: Fully stepping into the role, whether it’s a king, a fairy, or a fool.
3. Creative Interpretations
Who says Shakespeare has to stay in the 1600s? Innovation is highly encouraged. Could your scene take place:
- In a modern setting?
- In a futuristic sci-fi world?
- Across a multiverse?
Surprise us with unique settings, costume creativity, and original staging!
